THESE CURIOUS THOUGHTS

THE BAND

During the summer of 2004, Sean Dunlop (Detroit, US) and Jim Radford (London, UK) met while vacationing in Tingo Maria, Peru. Dunlop and Radford quickly discovered that they shared a love for music and learned about each other’s musical gifts. It was during this trip that the two were introduced to the Ancient Society of the Mound Builders. Dunlop and Radford became fascinated with this secret history and took the knowledge they obtained. Over the course of 2004, Dunlop and Radford remained in contact via email to discuss their shared knowledge and grow their friendship. They also began to write songs together in an attempt to pass secret information onto their listeners. Although it is often difficult to understand what their songs might mean, the true message is indistinctly layered throughout.

In 2005 Dunlop, Radford, and David Biliti (Drums) composed and recorded over thirty original songs. They decided to release a double album under the name, Shock of the Cold. From 2004 to 2008, Shock of the Cold grew to six members with the addition of Vito Biliti, Ian Emerson, and Ryan Flannery. Over that time the group toured the Metro-Detroit area and released several albums. Additionally, Shock of the Cold won 1st place at 3 rounds of the Emergenza Music Festival earning the opportunity to perform in front of a sold out crowd at the Majestic Theatre in Detroit where Dunlop won best guitarist. In January of 2008, the group decided to call it quits.

Dunlop and Radford found it impossible to refrain from composing.  As they continued to write music, they became increasingly inspired and began developing a new sound, a new image, and a new band.  They decided they would call their musical partnership, THESE CURIOUS THOUGHTS. With help from David Biliti on drums, Dunlop recorded the songs which would become TCT's debut, The World Outside (2009). The composition speed at which Dunlop and Radford had become accustomed to required them to begin releasing albums again.

By the time TCT released The World Outside in the Fall of 2009, recording was well underway for the tracks which would appear on The Colour of Sound (2010).  In an attempt to create a more unique sound, Dunlop experimented using more synthesizer and musical arrangements than he had on their previous album. Dunlop wanted a much larger and orchestrated sound so he abandoned the “live band” sound.

During 2010 the band began to see music reviews about their collaboration and unique sound. In response to this Dunlop and Radford decided to create a demo/album to send out to music industry professionals. The collection of songs on TCT’s third studio album, Let’s See What 2moro Brings (2011), was certainly their best work to date. Dunlop and Radford are currently, working together writing as well as dusting off older tunes that will be featured on their next studio album, Making Mountains from the Ground (MMXI).
